2:00 PM - 5:00 PMCongregation Bonai ShalomIn this extended class we will explore a whole range of end of life issues through a Jewish lens, including ethical wills, medical directives, rituals and practice and views of the afterlife. Wishes and Directives, Letters and Wills We will spend time considering, discussing and writing our own ethical wills, the letters we want our loved ones to read after we are gone. We will also consider how to help others, like aging parents write these, as well as exploring advanced medical directives. Ritual and Practice Jewish traditions at the end of life, with a focus on rituals performed immediately after death to honor the deceased; shmira (watching the body), taharah (preparing the body) and burial. Mourning and Afterlife Mourning practices, shiva, shloshim, kaddish, yahrzeits, and a brief overview of Jewish views on what happens after death.
