Our Kitchen

Welcome to the kitchen at Bonai Shalom!

Our kosher, dairy kitchen is a hub of activity that cultivates nourishment through delicious healthy food and vibrant community engagement. In Bonai’s kitchen we experience the “edible” Jewish calendar - a journey through the year with our senses - from weekly challah baking to rolling the dough for Hamentashen, from kashering our kitchen together for Pesach to cooking Hesed meals for loved ones in need. If food inspires you, consider Bonai’s kitchen your place to daven through service and generosity.

We do not use nuts in our kitchen or in preparation of any food served at Bonai Shalom.  We cannot guarantee at any time that nuts are not present in our building. Whenever possible we offer gluten-free, dairy-free, and vegan options at all meals.

Inspired? Craving a nosh?

Here’s how to get involved:

  • Sponsoring Kiddush is a delicious way to honor the memory of a loved one or celebrate a simcha!   Bonai’s kitchen specializes in gourmet, organic and gluten-free options for our well loved Kiddush lunches.
  • Lend a hand! We are always welcoming more volunteers into the kitchen (no experience necessary, come with an appetite and an open heart). Volunteer opportunities include: Shabbat Kiddush help, challah baking, hesed cooking, holiday baking.
  • Food shopping!  This is great for folks who don't have a lot of time but want to make a BIG IMPACT.   Would you be willing to add a few items to your regular grocery shopping list?  Drop these items off anytime, we'd be so grateful! Please note that any processed items must be hekshered (have a kosher symbol).  Raw and uncooked eggs, fruit and veggies are kosher already!

  • Sign up to put out or clean up from kiddush on Shabbat morning!

In the Summer of 2019 Bonai Shalom was accepted into the Shamayim Vegan Synagogue Challenge! The Synagogue Vegan Challenge is simple! Shamayim provides generous funding for Bonai Shalom to experiment with our community having regular vegan programming for a year! This adventure can be easy, spiritually uplifting, & delicious. Throughout we will serve plant-based meals, whether it's at kiddush, bar or bat mitzvah, Shabbat, or any event.

Come share and taste in our delicious heritage!
