Shabbat Morning Services

Shabbat Morning Services

Saturday Shabbat Services are at 9:30am.  Services are held at Congregation Bonai Shalom, 1527 Cherryvale Rd., Boulder.

*During the COVID-19 pandemic, all of our services are being held virtually. For the most up-to-date information, please visit our COVID Task Force Page.

We welcome members and visitors to our Shabbat morning services that begin at 9:30 AM and conclude around noon.  Our services are normally led by our beloved Rabbi Marc Soloway with extensive community participation in leading our prayers, Torah reading and Haftarah reading.  We read about one third of the entire Torah portion according to the triennial cycle.   Our services are traditional and vibrant with the community joining in singing, at times participating in Torah discussion and dancing.  We are fortunate to have some grades of our Hebrew school in attendance and lead us with their young voices in the some of the concluding prayers of our service.  Often our services are followed by a community Shabbat lunch that all are invited to share a bite to eat and friendly conversation.

As a note at different Shabbat services throughout the month we offer separate Shabbat experiences focused on our younger families and members or those preferring an alternative prayer experience.  Please see our calendar for the dates of the services.  All services conclude at the same time so that we can all share lunch together as a community.

Volunteers are always needed to help prepare, put out and clean up the Kiddush.  Please feel free to help out, Valerie Singer is often in the kitchen preparing before Kiddush and can always use a few hands.  Contact Ivy@bonaishalom.org for more information on volunteering in the kitchen.

Avodat Lev, an alternative service, 9:45am: Avodat Lev is a monthly alternative service in Rabbi Marc’s basement, running parallel to the main service in the Sanctuary.  It starts promptly at 9:45am and we invite all who wish to attend to be there at the beginning.  This spirited gathering follows the structure of a traditional prayer service and is guided by the Kabbalistic model of Four Worlds: the physical, emotional, intellectual and spiritual, mapped on to each section.  This experiential practice includes chanting phrases from the liturgy, periods of meditation, gentle movement and drumming and is timed to finish so that participants can rejoin the rest of the community for the end of the Torah service, Dvar Torah and Musaf and, of course, Kiddush lunch!  Please check our events calendar for upcoming dates.

Leadership will rotate between Rabbi Marc and Rabbinic Intern Hannah, while the other leads our main service.

Shabbat Shelanu at 11:30am: Meets the 2nd and 4th Saturday of the month. This twice-a-month tot Shabbat experience is a fabulous way to celebrate Shabbat together with your young children. We’ll sing, dance, tell stories and enjoy Shabbat together. Geared towards children under the age of 5 and their parents.

B’Yachad Youth Service at 10:45am: The B’Yachad service, for children in Grades 4-5, is led by Dafna Michaelson, and incorporates more student-led tefillot, volunteer Torah readings by parents, and parsha discussions.  Each service ends with a different “Prophet Elijah” story from our tradition. Held on the first and third Shabbat of each month when school is in session.

Have a listen to the music from our services on our Music Page.
