We are more than 50% through the Schematic Design phase (the second of 4 design phases) of the New Building project. While there are still questions to be answered and decisions to be made before we complete Schematic Design and present the results at the Annual Meeting on May 30, we are very excited about the progress that’s been made to-date.

Placemaking
On February 25, a multigenerational group of approximately 50 Bonai members gathered together to provide feedback to the Placemaking Sub-Committee, the Architecture & Design Committee, and our architectural team (represented by Nate Hawley, Stantec’s Experiential Design expert).
The group reviewed and evaluated 59 thoughtful and creative Placemaking ideas -- sourced from fellow congregants over the last 3 months -- and prioritized the ideas that they felt would resonate the most with our Bonai community. All ages participated, and the joint effort produced tremendous feedback for the design team, which is starting to think about ways to incorporate the prioritized ideas into the project.
What ideas excite YOU?!
If you were not able to attend the Placemaking Charrette on February 25, you still have an opportunity to weigh-in. Review the Placemaking Ideas PDF here and then go to the Placemaking Ideas Survey to share your top 5 ideas with us.
Over the last few weeks, we have been reading in the Book of Exodus that all the Children of Israel participated in the building of the Tabernacle (Mishkan) -- the ancient Israelite precursor of today’s synagogues -- by bringing “gifts” of everything that was needed for the project. As we continue to work together to realize our community’s vision for a new home, it is important that all of us participate in multiple ways to help bring the project to fruition. Sharing your Placemaking ideas is one way to participate; making a meaningful contribution to the Capital Campaign is another.
Campaign Corner
We have reached 50% of our fundraising goal!
Thanks to the tireless efforts of our Capital Campaign volunteers and the generous commitments of over 60 households in our community, we are half-way towards reaching our goal of $17.5 million. Since the High Holidays, we have raised over $4 million in donations -- $1 million of which was raised in the last few weeks alone. While there’s a lot of work left to do, momentum is building!
If you have not yet been asked for a contribution, don’t worry; it will be your turn soon. If you want to expedite the process, please reach out to Jennifer (jennifer@bonaishalom.org) to schedule a conversation with one of our Capital Campaign volunteers.
