Ancient Alphabet

Join us on a quest to learn the ancient Hebrew script which some believe was the script originally used to record the Torah, a historically Semitic/Canaanite script with roots in the hieroglyphs of Ancient Egypt. Each letter of this script is also a picture which provides a basic meaning, a morpheme.
Hebrew words therefore really are unique among the language of the world because Hebrew letters contain their meanings, so words are combinations of the meanings of the individual letters, which is what is meant by a ‘Davar’ or a ‘word’ in Hebrew actually being the thing it represents.
In this exciting language class we will look deeply at this Ancient alphabet, its roots in other ancient alphabets and hieroglyphs, its transformational nature, many examples of two and three letter words using this alphabet, and the reference to it in the Talmud. We will also look at isomorphisms of two-letter words by reversing the positions of the letters, three letter words by looking at the 6 combinations of such words, and how words that do not have the same letters can come to mean similar things.
