Teshuva means "returning," and this is a practice we engage in every year before the High Holidays. In order to return (lashuv) to some thing or place we need to recognize that we left it in the first place, and appreciate the essence of what we left. Appreciation is the cornerstone of environmental teshuva. We will explore how our traditional prayers of thanks can increase our appreciation of our environment by looking at how some Native American cultures connect to the environment through the Thanksgiving Prayer.
