Professor Ben Herzog, CU Boulder's 2022-2023 Israel Institute Visiting Faculty, will speak about Refugees and Citizenship in Israel.
Zionism has always called for the establishment of a Jewish State. However, Israeli society has never fully decided on the actual policies that such Jewishness entails. In his presentation, Dr. Herzog will present the legal, cultural and political attempts at articulating the particular Jewish character of Israel.
Dr. Herzog is a Senior Lecturer (equivalent to an associate professor in the US) at the Ben-Gurion Research Institute at the Ben-Gurion University of the Negev. Dr. Herzog is the 2022-2023 Israel Institute Visiting Faculty at the University of Colorado, Boulder.
Dr. Herzog has held visiting positions at Yale University, Dartmouth College, Harvard University, and Quinnipiac University. His articles on refugees and citizenship have been published in many academic journals, including Nations and Nationalism,
European Journal of Sociology, Citizenship Studies, and the Journal of Immigration Asylum and Nationality Law. His book, Revoking Citizenship: Expatriation in America
from the Colonial Era to the War on Terror, was published by NYU Press.
