Changing Homelessness Because It Changed Me

Jennifer feels compelled to be of service to her community because of her own experience in chronic homelessness in Boulder, where she spent five years sleeping in various public spaces. This experience taught her what community looks like and feels like. Although she wanted to give back to her community, there was literally no opportunity for her to do that because the stigma of homelessness follows people even after they are no longer homeless. And so she founded Feet Forward, a nonprofit Boulder-based organization, in the spring of 2020. Her mission? To change homelessness because it changed her. That has meant breaking stigmas and also creating new approaches to end homelessness derived from the lived experience of people who have been there and done that.  

Jennifer is currently a senior at Colorado State University on the cusp of graduating with an undergraduate degree in Human Services. She is an active member of Boulder’s Housing Advisory Board and was recently appointed to the Boulder Police Department’s Community Oversight Panel. Her commitment to the community extends to the state level where she also sits on the Department of Local Affairs Lived Experience Advisory Panel.

Shabbat services begin at 6 PM followed by a catered dinner and Jennifer’s presentation. Dinner: $24 per person.
