Zoom Tashlich
Tuesday, September 22, 2020 • 4 Tishrei 5781
5:00 PM - 6:00 PMJoin Rabbi Marc as a customary Tashlich service on Zoom link:
Tashlich, or “casting off,” is a ceremony in which we symbolically cast off the sins of the previous year by tossing pebbles or bread crumbs into flowing water. Our community Tashlich will look a little different this year. While we will miss gathering by the creek, we are offering a virtual way to be connected to this important ritual.
-
Participate in this fun and experiential ceremony at home with your family and loved ones. Below is some guidance from 18doors.org:
-
Gather washable sidewalk chalk and some cups/bottles of water.
-
Ask everyone to think of something (or multiple things) they’d like to let go of and “wash away” heading into the new year.
-
Write or draw your thoughts on the ground with the chalk and then take a moment to reflect on why you want to let go of this thing.
-
Once everyone is done, grab a cup of water and wash it away. If you’d like, you can say a blessing or read something to the group. Here is one option:
-
We are present in this moment. Help us let go of shortcomings from the past year. As we wash away the words below, relief will follow. Help us move from the past to the present as the new year begins. Keep us grateful and present today and in the year ahead.
-
Allow space for everyone to process the ceremony and enjoy the conversations that will arise from this experience.
