First Friday on Thursday: MOTUS Theater's Shoe Box Stories

Thursday, September 10, 2020 21 Elul 5780

7:00 PM - 8:30 PMZoom

Join us on Thursday, September 10 for our First Friday on Thursday Series. This month, we’ll be hosting Motus Theater’s Shoe Box Stories – We Were Strangers: Women of Resolution.

RSVP is required to attend an intimate virtual reading of Women of Resolution live from the homes of readers Anna Hanson, Jessica Hersh, Charna Rosenholtz and Rabbi Rosalie M. Osian, Chaplain and musician Teresita Lozano. Women of Resolution shares the autobiographical stories of Araceli Velasquez, Ingrid Encalada Latorre, Rosa Sabido, and Sandra Lopez - four women who sought sanctuary to prevent being deported and separated from their families. Scripted by Kirsten Wilson based on interviews recorded by Joel Dyer and Motus staff. With photos by Joel Dyer.

This performance is part of Motus Theater’s Shoebox Stories project and our We Were Strangers series - a collaboration with Jewish leaders who express moral courage and civic hospitality as they read aloud the story of an undocumented person and reflect both personally and theologically on seeing the world through the eyes of an immigrant. There is no charge to register for this event, but please contribute here what you would for a ticket so Motus Theater can pay the musicians, undocumented storytellers and staff to continue our work during this challenging time. Motus Theater is working creatively to meet the needs of people to connect meaningfully while honoring Safer-at-Home practices during the pandemic, and to find ways of reflecting on the ongoing challenges facing our community and democracy.

This program is being co-sponsored by the Bonai Shalom First Friday and Social Action Committees.
